NETBALL MILESTONE

10 May 2018 by Zara Pearson

This week we celebrate Olivia Hannon’s 100 game Milestone. Olivia had just turned 14 in
2013 when she made her first appearance in the Green & White playing in the Under 17’s
side. The next season Olivia was promoted to the B Grade side who were eventual
Runners Up in the Grand Final. She was joint EFNC Best & Fairest with Leah Thompson ,
Runner Up Best & Fairest in the GVNL League and awarded the Karen Monahan Rising Star
Award. Pretty impressive for a 15 year old!  In 2015 Liv was part of the A Grade team who
made it to the Grand Final however coming out runners up. Liv took out the A Grade B&F
in 2016 which is an honourable award to win as it is the Judy Haw Perpetual Trophy. Olivia
would be one of the smallest A Grade goalers in the league but her timing and
anticipation means that those who underestimate her are easily beaten. Olivia is
extremely agile and super quick, she uses her speed to out run and out manoeuvre her
taller opponents. Olivia is an extremely composed player, she is able to work hard against
strong physical contact and turn and shoot the ball with poise which is a defenders
nightmare. Olivia reads the game very well and is able to recognise the different roles
that she can play in the team. Olivia’s understanding in the attack end has seen her easily
step in to the WA position as she has very good passing skills and knowledge of ball
placement to the goalers. This year Olivia was invited by the GVL to attend selections for
the Open Interleague squad and she has previously represented the GVNL Under 17
squad who were successful semi finalists at the Association championships.
Liv completed year 12 last year and is enjoying a gap year this year.  The highlight this
season is having a couple of her 2015 Grand Final team members Sherry Townrow and
Holly Butler back playing along side her. We congratulate you Liv on your stellar 100
games for our club and hope you celebrate in style with you teammates.
