NETBALL MILESTONE

14 Sep 2018 by Zara Pearson

This week Jane Emonson has reached the 100 game milestone.
Jane played a handful of seasons of junior netball with the Wickliffe/Lake Bolac Football Netball Club where she learned the importance of club values and contributing to community. Moving to Ballarat Jane played 1 season with Ballarat in year 12 and then didn’t play again until moving to Echuca. When Jane made the move to Echuca to be with the love of her life Mark (Emo) she didn’t know anybody in town and thought joining the netball club would be a good way of meeting people. Turns out it was a great idea as Jane says she has met some of her closest and best friends at the club, as well as an endless list of great people in our football community. Jane loves how the footy club brings together people of all ages, different stages of life, different backgrounds, and different jobs and forms friendships of all sorts. She loves the sense of belonging to such a great community group and feels proud to wear the green and white old stained grey hoodie. Jane has fond memories of carving up the dance floor at the Shammie or OPT in her Echuca polar fleece back in the day!
It’s hard to believe that Jane has only played 6 seasons of senior netball, 5 of them with Echuca. She joined the A grade side in 2004 and 2005 and then in 2010 she returned to the courts playing B Grade for a season and again in the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
In 2016 Jane was a non-playing coach of the B Res team with Allira O’Brien.
This year she has returned to the courts again making an instant impact. Her massive calves allow her to play such a dynamic game. Everyone hates playing on Jane as she just never lets you free and if she does, it’s usually because she’s intercepting the ball. Jane is well loved around the club for her friendly, happy and generous nature. We all laugh at her funny sense of humour and her love of a good time. We admire her as a leader within our teams and a role model within our community.
The undeniable, inexplicable bond that forms between netball teammates. The “we are in Euroa….in July…..its 3 degrees and raining sideways…… and we’re wearing a tiny little dress!” Type of bond is something special to Jane. This bond will be on display this Sunday as Jane and her teammates strive to get themselves a spot in the Grand finale.
Congratulations on your 100th game Jane. Georgia, Harry and Sadie are very proud of their mum and love being a part of your sporting life. Go Bombers.
